I International Congress of Psychology and Humanistic Psychotherapies – 19-20-21 Nov 2015 – Barcelona

On Friday 20 November 2015 (12:50 – 14:00) I will be offering a Workshop at the I International Congres of Psychology and Humanistic Psychotherapies in Barcelona.

The Workshop will be focussed on how to use our Yoga practice as a mean to cultivate Ethical Values.

Inspired by a Tibetan Yoga practice in which we work with the 6 Perfections (or Paramittas), this Yoga sequence is designed to connect with 6 Ethical Values.
I have created the Yoga & Ethics practice as a way to work within a frame more in line with our Western society.
Here, Yoga becomes a tool to profoundly experience some of the ethical values. It is when one connects with them, that life redefines itself as more complete and meaningful.
We do not practice only for ourselves, but for the World.

A paper (in Spanish) related to this workshop can be viewed here.

Private Yoga sessions

Munich and around, classes and retreats.

My Yoga practice started while I was at University, in 1996, and has never stopped.

During these 19 years, I have practiced in different traditions and have taken training in the directions that resonated in me.
Mainly, these are the schools where I have been trained: Sun and Moon Yoga (Leza Lowitz), Yin Yoga* (Paul Grilley & Sarah Powers) and Tibetan Heart Yoga**, the complete series (Yoga Studies Institute).

But, the true inspiration for my practice and the way I understand Yoga came to me during those magical 2 years I lived in Bhutan, that extraordinary little Kingdom in the Himalayas.

I like to see yoga as a tool that has to be made available to our unique nature. In my private classes, I see you as what you are: a unique individual with unique needs and aspirations. I then apply the yoga that matches you here and now.

*YIN YOGA – Yin Yoga focuses on stretching the connective tissue that forms our joints. In order to do that, poses are held for long periods (3-5 min) making it a deeper practice. Since strengthening the muscles is not the main target, there is very little movement involved. Such a quiet practice invites inner exploration of body sensations and provides space to calm the mind. Yin Yoga was developed by Paul and Suzee Grilley based on Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama’s Meridian Theory.

**TIBETAN HEART YOGA – The Tibetan Heart Yoga system is rooted in a lineage started by Master Naropa, a yogi who lived around 1100 AD. This style is unique as it combines modern and ancient asanas (poses) and strong wisdom derived from the Yoga teachings of the Dalai Lamas of Tibet. In Tibetan Heart Yoga, the inner and outer methods are combined to create a powerful practice. We work from the inside with our thoughts and from the outside with our asana (poses) and pranayama (breathing). The intention with which we practice the asana is regarded as the most important element of the THY practice.

Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapy

What is Humanistic Psychotherapy?

Humanistic Psychotherapy is framed within the idea that all of us persons are unique and unrepeatable. We carry a history, are bound to specific circumstances and have our own future aspirations and dreams.
We are more than just instincts and responses to stimuli. We are, in fact, open systems, susceptible to change.

These are the five basic postulates of Humanistic Psychology:

1. Human beings, as human, are more than merely the sum of their parts. They cannot be reduced to component parts or functions.
2. Human beings exist in a uniquely human context, as well as in a cosmic ecology.
3. Human beings are aware and aware of being aware-i.e., they are conscious. Human consciousness potentially includes an awareness of oneself in the context of other people and the cosmos.
4. Human beings have some choice, and with that, responsibility.
5. Human beings are intentional, aim at goals, are aware that they cause future events, and seek meaning, value and creativity.

(Adapted by Tom Greening from J. F. T. Bugental, “The Third Force in Psychology” Journal of Humanistic Psychology, 1964, Vol. 4, No. 1, pp. 19-25).

What can Humanistic Psychotherapy do for me?

Sometimes, we would like to be more happy, more free, more authentic.
Sometimes, we feel blocked or lost in one or more aspects of our lives. It could be because of a certain event (e.g. important life change like moving to another country, a separation), or perhaps because we are facing a dilemma and find it difficult to make a decision, or because we might not be satisfied with our relationships or our jobs… and perhaps it is a matter of wanting to find meaning in life.

We all face moments in which we need alternative approaches to reconnect with ourselves and see life from a new and refreshing perspective.

I can offer you support and guidance so that we together can understand how to grow towards the true You, fully present and comfortable, and work on becoming that. I will be there to accompany you while you learn how to walk on that new path that will arise when you discover how to walk in freedom.

A little bit more about Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapy:

The model I follow integrates concepts from several schools of humanistic psychotherapy. Its goal is to reach an holistic and systemic interpretation of the personality and behaviour, and consequently provide the appropriate therapy.
The main schools integrated in the model are: Gestalt (F. Perls), Transactional Analysis (E. Berne), Body Psychotherapies (such as Bioenergy from A. Lowen which I very much infused with yoga), constructivism (G. Kelly), C. Rogers’ person-centered therapy, Focusing (E. Gendlin).
As I come from the Yoga world, I very much use techniques to create awareness of the present moment (mindfulness) as well as body movements and postures aimed to open the body and subsequently the mind.

Can I have Integrative Humanistic Psychotherrapy sessions in my own language?

Since I am fluent in these languages, I am happy to offer sessions in English, Spanish, Catalan, French and Italian.

A bit more extended:

I am half French, half Italian and was born and grew up in Barcelona (Catalunya / Spain).

While I was studying Psychology at the University of Barcelona, I developped a strong inclination towards neuroscience research. The study of the human brain by means of neuro-imaging techniques fascinated me and so I decided to enroll in a PhD at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands).

I continued my research path in Japan: first at RIKEN and afterwards at Jikei University Medical School in Tokyo.
It was during my time in Tokyo that I deepened my Yoga practice and went through several Teacher Trainings. I started to teach Yoga as a hobby. I feel especially connected to “Tibetan Yoga”.

When three years in Japan were over, I had the chance to go to Bhutan, a little Kingdom in the Himalayas. There, I opened a yoga studio, taught yoga, organised retreats, and did counselling in various institutions. I did take part in a research project to properly establish Gross National Happiness (GNH), as well. The two years I had the immense fortune to call Bhutan home were crucial for my personal growth.

Back in Europe, I  continued with neuroscience research in Munich (Germany). In parallel, I did a Master in Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapy at the Instituto Erich Fromm in Barcelona.

I currently work as a psychotherapist in beautiful Munich and surroundings (mainly Ammersee). I teach Yoga as well and enjoy offering workshops in both fields: Yoga and Psychotherapy.
I find them so closely linked!
